Rustic Equestrian Room Inspiration

My eleven year-old daughter Hannah - like most young girls her age - likes to have her room decorated with her favourite style du jour... Over the years we've had purple & yellow polkadots; rainbow brights; zebra print; turquoise Parisian style; and tropical/marine.
As her bedroom is her sanctuary, I don't mind letting her creative spirit flourish - within reason. Certain elements must remain classic and unchanged - like her bed, desk and dresser, which are all white. The walls are also antique white and the floor is timber. That essentially leaves a blank canvas that can be personalised to her whimsical heart's content quite easily and most importantly - budget-friendly... A few pictures on the walls, new curtains, quilt cover, cushions and a rug...done!

Right now she is absolutely horse crazy... This is not a new thing - she has been in love with horses since she was five years old, but has been riding a lot more this past year and is at the age where she feels connected to the inner beauty of these powerful and majestic animals. She also loves the colour blue and has requested a country palette of blues and browns. Although she is by no means a girly-girl, we don't want her room looking too boyish either. So here is my inspiration board for her rustic equestrian room:

As I complete each project (I plan to DIY as much as possible) I'll feature it here and do a major reveal upon completion.

  1. can't wait to see the finished room. we just redid our 10 year old daughter's room not too long ago & it was no easy task. we changed furniture & all since she still had the shabby chic since she was a baby. good luck & have fun.

    best- mj
